l’Atelier de Joel Robuchon, London

L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon. Randomly chosen to go there for my birthday lunch, since i was flying off to Prague on the next day, i thought lunch would be better so i can head home afterward to get ready…
Went there with Toptable booking, and surely even if you book directly you still can enjoy the lunch menu offer. 2 courses for GBP 19, what more could you want? Joel Robuchon… its like a legend on French Cuisine, I can’t say more as I have never ate at Joel Robuchon before but i have been to his Salon de The in Hong Kong. Will definitely make another visit this July!!!! hoho~~~~
No doubt the interior is so amazing, red and black makes a good contrast. We was located on the other end of the prime seats which you can see the chef preparing the food in front of you. The waiters were super friendly and professional, and the plus side was that they say you can take any picture you like… one waitress even offer to take picture for me. god, what more customer service can you expect?? Like other bloggers have said, the lunch menu is limited but as a set meal i think that’s okay. I went for the pea soup and the guinea fowl with stuffed veg and i have ordered dessert from its a la carte menu. kakaka~~~

when the soup arrived, i was like huhhhhhhhh….. crouton and some onions? where are my soup? hahaha… surprisingly they serve your soup via a sake bottle like, the waiter would pour the soup into your bowl. I have never seen such a creamy and concentrated veg soup before. the flavour was awesome and the texture is just sooo good and smooth. hhaa~ my friend and i were surprised how good the soup comes to. While my other friend tried their white asparagus, very light in taste and tried something we never try before. ^^

As for the main, we all ordered Guinea fowl with stuffed vegetable. my friends both have got the breast bit and I’ve got the thigh bit. presentation is simple but elegant. perhaps for a dinner the portion might seem small, but for lunch i think that was perfect size. as i don’t know what fowl is, first bite seems like chicken…. eat along with the tender and sweet veg its just perfect. And the fowl was cooked perfectly and juices are still in the meat. till now, i m still thinking how do a fowl looks like?!?!
frankly speaking, going back to the interior and how you can watch the chef prep the dishes etc; around the restaurant i really enjoy looking at the small details, the bread baskets, the plants and the displays around the kitchen… it don’t just look like a restaurant but also an art gallery. ha~ just so glad that i got my dslr with me, else i will be hitting my head if i didn’t capture any of these lovely snaps.

don’t laugh, but even before i decided on my main, i was actually looking at the dessert menu first. hhaa~~ i cant help it, before anything has decided i caught my eyes on the passion fruit souffle. i think i just love passion fruit no matter what it is. A friend and i ordered from a la carte and another friend ordered the dessert du jour. All comes very presentable, take a looky… my passion fruit souffle were presented on a slate of rock.. with yuzu ice cream, pity my ice cream melted already! the chocolate dessert my friend ordered was super rich, this one contains Oreo biscuit, i can’t remember what else it contains now.. as i just thought to myself i have to eat my souffle before it gets cold. lol~~~ after my souffle i reckon i can eat another dessert as its so light that i doesn’t feel i have eaten anything.

this place certainly is a great restaurant to dine in, i am grateful that i have dine here for my birthday lunch. it just makes me want to visit all its other branches around the world. Perhaps, i shall make my way to its Hong Kong branch when i m there in July. i enjoyed it so much, the meal was good, i was just snapping away at dishes and the surrounding, giggling with friends about holidays etc… awww hopefully i can go back very soon.

What lovely photos! You had a better meal than I did last August, when my lamb was so oversalted I had to say something. Gah!

Thank you for the very informative review! I’ve been wanting to go visit this restaurant for some time now, and was just a bit worried about going for the somewhat “cheap” set menu in a 2 michelin star restaurant, but your descriptions and your pictures helped to convince me otherwise!
